In addition to our five main ingredients, we are continuously looking for the best and gentlest ingredients with scientifically proven efficacy. The newest ingredient on our radar? The powerhouse Bakuchiol! A plant-based and mild alternative to retinol.
Bakuchiol, what is it?
Bakuchiol is a 100% vegan and natural ingredient derived from the seeds and leaves of the Psoralea Corylifolia plant. The extract of this plant has been used for hundreds of years within Indian and Chinese medicine and is known to treat psoriasis, vitiligo but also stomach ulcers and even liver problems.
Recent scientific research and clinical studies show that Bakuchiol contains strong anti-aging properties and has a positive effect on skin structure.
Bakuchiol vs Retinol
Bakuchiol and retinol are widely compared within the skincare scene because they share a lot of benefits.
- They help prevent fine lines and wrinkles,
- can be used to treat acne,
- even out skin tone and discoloration
- and stimulate the production of collagen.
However, beyond these great benefits, there is a very big difference between bakuchiol and retinol. The molecular structure of both ingredients is completely different. Where bakuchiol comes from a 100% natural plant, retinol is chemically processed from vitamin A.
Bakuchiol for sensitive skin
Despite its benefits, retinol can have an irritating effect on people with a sensitive – and problem skin. The skin becomes red, dry and an itching effect may even occur. By accelerating cell renewal, Bakuchiol has a soothing, healing effect and will prevent irritation. Do you suffer from sensitive skin? Then go for the mild Bakuchiol and try to avoid skin care products with retinol as much as possible.

Skin care during pregnancy
As a mommy to be, you only want the best for your baby and use as few products as possible that can be harmful. During pregnancy, it is not recommended to use skin care products that contain retinol (vitamin A) because they can influence the baby’s development. The chemical difference between retinol and bakuchiol is large enough to suggest that there is no harm in using Bakuchiol during pregnancy.
What skin types is Bakuchiol suitable for?
Bakuchiol is suitable for all skin types, including those who suffer from sensitive – and problem skin. The mild nature and soothing effects of Bakuchiol make the ingredient perfect for persons suffering from eczema, acne, and dry skin. #helloglowingskin
Holy Rejuvinating Facial Oil
During the development process of the Holy Rejuvinating Facial Oil, I came across different scientific research that extensively tested the benefits of Bakuchiol. After much deliberation, we decided together with the lab to create our facial oil based on revinage and bakuchiol, two mild ingredients that repair the skin, reduce visible large pores and fine lines, and boost collagen. The result? A 100% natural and vegan face oil that makes your skin glow!
