De vijf meest gestelde vragen over zonnecrème en SPF

The five most frequently asked questions about sunscreen and SPF

The first spring sun on your skin: a wonderful feeling! But... did you know that your skin is extra susceptible to burning and DNA damage during this period? Those first rays of sunshine seem innocent, but nothing could be further from the truth. Your skin has seen little sun in recent months. This makes it more fragile and prone to damage. The power of the sun does not depend on the temperature. On a cool, bright day the sun can be just as strong as on a warm day.

So don't be surprised and enjoy our tips for a safe and well-deserved portion of vitamin D.

The eternal struggle – what do you apply first: sunscreen or day cream?

Applying multiple creams causes confusion for many of us - our daily ritual is interrupted and chaos takes over for a while. Rest assured, there is no need to panic this year! I would like to give you a clear and simple answer :-). It is best to apply a day cream before applying the sunscreen. A day cream is packed with active substances that must be absorbed deeply into the skin to do their job properly. Antioxidants will penetrate the skin barrier to neutralize free radicals so that your skin is protected against all kinds of harm.

  • Routine: first cleansing, then day cream and finally sunscreen.

Which SPF is recommended?

During the cold winter months, a day cream with natural SPF is sufficient to protect your skin. However, when the first rays of sunshine shine, more is needed to keep your skin safe. Your skin is exposed to little to no sun in the winter, so it is therefore wise to apply a sufficiently high protection factor during the first spring injection.

An SPF lower than 30 is strongly discouraged by dermatologists and doctors. This does not provide sufficient protection and will therefore not keep your skin safe against harmful UV rays. To feel good, I therefore recommend a sunscreen with a factor of 30 or 50. SPF30 is usually the most commonly used factor 🙂

Can I use my sunscreen from last year?

No, not at all! A sunscreen only retains its protective effect for 12 months. When the product is opened, the factor (SPF) will decrease, so the cream no longer protects optimally and your skin is therefore not guaranteed against those warm rays.

Tip: After use, store your bottle in a dark place at room temperature.

How much product do I need to protect me sufficiently?

I would like to share one tip with you: apply liberally! To reach the protection factor on the packaging, you must apply two milligrams of sunscreen per square centimeter. A handy reminder:

  • Face: half a teaspoon of sunscreen
  • Arms and legs: four tablespoons of sun milk
  • Stomach and back: two tablespoons of sun milk
  • Don't miss these 'often-forgotten places': ears, lips and the tops of your feet.

Can you recommend me a natural sunscreen?

I am aware that sunscreen has received bad press in recent years. For example, most creams contain harmful chemicals that can trigger allergies and even disrupt hormones. In addition, many people are sensitive to sunscreen, which can quickly cause skin problems to arise.

I have been looking for a good, safe and environmentally friendly variant for years. An (apparently) difficult quest in which I was never really satisfied. As a solution, I launched a sunscreen last summer that did meet all my criteria: The ' Boost of Protecion Sunscreen SPF30 '.

Boost of Protection Sunscreen

Some of the benefits that make this product sublime:

  • Natural and vegan protection against UVA and UVB rays
  • No nano zinc oxide and no harmful filters
  • Suitable for both the body and the face
  • Developed for sensitive skin and therefore also suitable for children
  • Coral friendly and safe for marine life

In addition to choosing the right sun protection, you should also hydrate and soothe your skin properly. Do you have any other questions about protecting your skin? Send me an email (team@nauralself.eu) or a Whatsapp message (+32 470 21 99 87).
