Dorothee Dauwe, you know them! Especially when you hear her voice, she is a radio presenter on Q Music! Together with Maarten she makes the evening rush hour unsafe on the radio as Dorothee Vegas & Like Maarten. Brussels resident with a love for Ed Sheeran, preparé and she always looks so super happy! Her favorite quote? “Life is more than fittin' in your jeans.”
1.Everyone is busy these days. But at Self we attach a lot of attention to me-time! Do you plan enough time for yourself and how do you arrange the puzzle of work, family and me-time?
I am naturally quite well organised, so the puzzle in my agenda has always been carefully considered. I have no children, but I do have a sweetheart with whom I live in an apartment in Brussels. There is always something to do in the city, so I have had to force myself to occasionally just not plan a day and then just stay home. If I see in my agenda that it is a busy week, with something planned every day or almost every evening, I always keep an evening free for myself. Watching TV, reading a book in the bath, putting on some guilty pleasure songs, making iced tea and granola, ... I really enjoy that. Just be home alone.
2. Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn in life. What advice would you give to your younger self?
I would recommend the Dorothee in her teens to be a little more yolo 🙂
Do you like that boy? Then just walk up to it. What's the worst that could happen? As a teenager, you think your world is going to collapse if it isn't mutual, or you're going to make a fool of yourself. But how nice is it when someone tells you “I think I'm a little bit in love with you”?
3. What is your ultimate favorite address in Belgium!
I really enjoy having something delicious to eat with my best friends. Resto Henri in Brussels is my absolute favorite. Many simple dishes - such as tomato shrimp and steak tartare - but they are sublimely delicious.
4. How are you doing with your ambition? On fleek? Which goals are at the top of your priority list in 2017?
I get to make a radio program every day at Qmusic, with my colleague Maarten Vancoillie. We present the evening rush hour every day between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. My ambition is to ensure that everyone who listens has a great time. And I would like to do that for a long time!
And otherwise I just want to be happy. It doesn't all have to be too special. I live in a small rental apartment in Brussels. But I have the best love, the coolest friends, the most beautiful family... If everything goes well with them and with me, I can consider myself very lucky.
5. Oh, you meet a genie-in-a-bottle and you get three wishes. They always say that you shouldn't reveal your wishes, but let's make an exception for once. What are your three wishes?
I would really like to take a long trip, but I dread planning it (and the cost). So my first wish: the perfectly planned trip to Australia, Thailand or America.
I would like a pet, a cat or a dog. (I even have a list of names in my iPhone. Maybe you shouldn't tell anyone.) But I don't see that happening in an apartment. So a beautiful garden (that maintains itself) might magically appear at my apartment.
And I would like to grow old, but not alone. So I wish my love, family and friends to grow old happily with me. With a faded tattoo here and there and gray hair – wonderful!
Thank you for this great Q&A Dorothee! You can hear Dorothee every working day on Q between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. and you can follow her via Instagram ! Are you curious who will answer our # SELF Q&A next month?
