Now that we are mostly all staying indoors and disinfecting our hands a dozen times a day, our skin is going through a hard time. The dry heating air indoors, the lack of fresh outside air, aggressive alcohol gels and the frequent washing take their toll. Every day I receive emails from customers asking me for tips & tricks to make their dry skin healthy again.
I would like to share my 5 golden tips with you too!
Pamper your hands
It’s normal for your hands to feel dry and rough from all that washing. Most foaming soaps contain chemicals such as SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) that break down your skin barrier. That natural protective layer regulates the moisture balance of your skin and keeps bacteria at bay. For people with sensitive skin and conditions such as psoriasis and eczema, these chemicals can cause even more damage.
Give your hands the attention and love they deserve. Use a gentle wash gel and spread a generous dab of mild cream after each wash. Our hand & body wash cleans your hands gently, without drying them out. In addition to soy oil – an oil that resembles the skin’s own oil and helps the skin to retain moisture and restore itself – the wash gel also contains aloe vera extract: a miracle agent from Mother Nature that prevents flaking and improves skin suppleness. Our body butter is also packed with natural concentrates to keep your skin soft and supple, such as coconut oil that targets the damaged skin layer and macadamia, packed with vitamin B that reduces redness. Bye bye, damaged hands!
Don’t forget your face
Red spots, a dull complexion, a tight feeling … Your face also pays the toll of sitting inside. And let’s not forget the impact of stress, because what happens in your body shows itself on the outside. Yep, that rollercoaster of stress hormones can play a role in skin problems!
As regular habits give us a sense of normalcy and the feeling that everything will be alright, it’s best to stick to a good grooming ritual. It calms your head and gives your skin a chance to recover from the inside out. To help you make skin care a habit, we have put together a handy kit for you. Our SELF Face Routine Kit contains three full-sized skincare favorites to cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize your skin. They work perfectly together to protect, repair and nourish your skin, using the very best ingredients from Mother Nature. Exactly what your skin needs now.
Moisturize your body too
Did you know that healthy skin also boosts your health? As the largest organ, your skin plays a key role in your immune system. It protects you from pathogens and helps prevent viruses and bacteria from entering your body. Give your skin a healthy boost and apply it consciously. Less is more! Stay away from creams and ointments that layer on the skin. They cover the skin, making it difficult for your skin to breathe and not getting a chance to recover. Go for natural products that treat your skin to a healthy vitamin bomb. In addition to shea butter – packed with vitamins and complex fatty acids that restore chapped skin – our body butter also contains coconut oil: rich in lauric and lauric and palmitic acid that help repair the damaged skin layer. Natural skin enhancers!
Use mild products
Your skin needs help to repair the damaged skin barrier. Go for a mild care that does not further affect the skin layer. Our products contain only the most nourishing, protective ingredients from Mother Nature. Our big 5 ingredients – shea butter, macadamia, coconut oil, aragan oil and aloe vera – are known for their skin-strengthening effect. You can read more about it here. They penetrate deep into the skin, restore the natural skin barrier and help keep your skin healthy. And you can feel it!
Note: The skin needs time to get used to new, natural care products and to restart her natural skin metabolism. This can take up to 6 weeks. Be patient.
Scrub twice a week
I said it before: products that are too aggressive can damage your skin. Still, a gentle scrub is ever so important, all the more for “more difficult” skin. Our Boost of Oxygen Facial Scrub contains rice grains that gently remove dead skin cells and dirt residues. But the scrub does more than that: the natural, essential oils in the scrub have a nourishing and restorative effect. And don’t forget the rest of your body. The Dead Sea salts and vegetable oils in our delicate body scrub eliminate impurities and intensively nourish the skin. You can also use the scrub as a bath salt, for an escaping me-time moment.
