Self-love. It's really not just an empty buzzword. A healthy dose of self-love is an essential condition for happiness. Because let's face it, friendships come and go, relationships can fall apart... but until your last day here on earth you have to make do with yourself. Want it or not. So you might as well make the most of it, right?
Working on more self-love
Like yourself. It seems obvious, but it really isn't always. In a society in which beautiful filters often portray life as rosier than reality, that self-love is sometimes lost. All those picture-perfect pictures on social media make us doubt ourselves. Because the other person seems just that little bit prettier, more interesting, more fun... then you. Recognizable?
Rest assured, you are not alone. When I still worked as a psychologist - before I started SELF - I almost daily encountered women (and also men) who were struggling with their self-image.
Through therapy I taught them step by step to love themselves more again. The road to more self-love is very personal. There is no quick fix. But I would like to share some tips with you that will help get things moving.
Inspirational quotes are more than nice words.
They force you to pause for a moment and look at yourself and the world from a different perspective. Pinterest is full of beautiful sayings. Choose a few that suit you and give them a place in your home. Would you rather not show it off? Then write them down on a Post-it and stick them on the inside of your wardrobe, the mirror above your sink... Little shots of positivity that are guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
Loving yourself also means that you take loving care of yourself.
Healthy food, a brisk walk, good body care... These are all ways to take care of yourself. Your body deserves that extra attention! Close the bathroom door, run the bath and treat yourself to some me-time. For ultimate pampering, add a few tablespoons of our Fine Deluxe Body Scrub to the bath water.
