Sleep is hugely underestimated. Your body and mind need it and, above all, enough of it. But your skin also needs enough sleep. They don't call it beauty sleep for nothing. Below you will find some tips to get the most out of your night's sleep.
Combine sports with yoga
Exercise is good for the body and mind, and it also ensures that stress hormones are broken down more quickly and the hormone endorphins are released. Endorphins make us feel happier and experience less stress, but they also keep us alert and awake. In addition, adrenaline is released and our body temperature and heart rate increase.
It is often thought that exercise makes you tired and that you therefore fall into a deep sleep more quickly... but nothing could be further from the truth! To fall asleep more easily, it is important that your body first cools down and the heart rate drops. So skip exercising just before you go to sleep and replace it with a short (non-intensive) session of yoga or meditation.
Establish a fixed evening routine
Try to go to sleep at the same time every day, even on weekends. And you can also do this by following a routine: taking off makeup, showering or taking a bath, brushing your teeth, your skincare routine, reading, etc. Following a certain pattern gives you peace of mind and allows your body to unconsciously relax.
Your bedroom is only for sleeping
Make sure there are as few distractions as possible in your bedroom. Exchange your iPhone for an old-school alarm clock and ban the television from the living room. Make your bedroom that place where the bed is sacred without distractions! An extra tip? Make your room cozy with nice things that give it that little bit more flair! Make your bed regularly with fresh sheets and spray a few soothing lavder drops on your pillow. Lavender helps you relax, lowers your heart rate and improves your sleep.
Are you a fan of plants? Aloe Vera is not only a powerhouse in skincare, it also works wonders in your bedroom! This plant releases oxygen at night, which helps for better and deeper sleep.

Dim the lights and turn off your iPhone and television in time
Are you naturally more sensitive to light? Dim the lights in the evening before going to sleep and use some candles for a cozy touch and a soft light. Also try not to use your iPhone as much as possible or put it in night mode, so that the light becomes less blue. Blue light triggers your brain, causing your head to have less rest. The same applies to your laptop and television, these screens are all based on blue light and are therefore detrimental to your night's sleep.
Relax and treat yourself with a portion of me-time
My final tip? Treat yourself to a moment of peace and quiet in the bathroom for a while. A warm bath works wonders, put a few spoons of our Fine Deluxe Body Scrub in running water and let this scrub form into a soft and nourishing oil. Put on a face mask and let it sit for a while while you enjoy a glass of wine, a book or a short nap.
Allowing your body and mind to completely relax does wonders for your sleep ritual! I start this mini-ritual every Monday; a relaxing start to the week that immediately puts me on the right path.
