Birthday cake: Caramel Shortcake

Every year we immerse you in our top birthday cake inspiration. This year you will receive Chloë's favorite recipe, our marketing madam and a true sweet tooth. Introducing the Caramel Shortcake, a super easy and incredibly delicious birthday cake! Lets eat!

The recipe below is for 6 to 8 people
Time: 30 min. + 1 hour in the fridge

Supplies:

  • For the base: 75 g butter & 120 g biscuits
  • For the caramel: 1 can sweetened condensed milk, 60 g butter & 2 tablespoons caster sugar
  • For the chocolate: 200 g dark chocolate & 50 g white chocolate

Preparation method:

1. Start by making your base

Crumble the biscuits with your hand (or food processor), melt the butter and mix it with the crumbs. Make sure it becomes a nice and sticky whole. You can add some melted butter if necessary to ensure the crumbs stick.

Divide the mixture over a greased springform pan (preferably one with a diameter of 24 cm) and press everything down with a spoon so that it becomes a firm whole. Then put in the refrigerator.

2. Caramel layer

Melt the butter with the caster sugar in a pan and keep stirring well. When the sugar has melted, add the condensed milk. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes over a low heat and make sure you keep stirring well. When the caramel has thickened slightly, turn off the heat.

Divide the caramel over the cookie base and place it back in the refrigerator.

2. Caramel layer

Melt the butter with the caster sugar in a pan and keep stirring well. When the sugar has melted, add the condensed milk. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes over a low heat and make sure you keep stirring well. When the caramel has thickened slightly, turn off the heat.

Divide the caramel over the cookie base and place it back in the refrigerator.

3. Make your black chocolate sauce

Melt the dark chocolate in a bain marie and then let it cool for a few minutes. Then pour the dark chocolate over the caramel.

4. Do the same with the white chocolate

Then melt the white chocolate in a bain marie and make a nice pattern with this chocolate.

Finally, put the cake in the refrigerator for another hour... and voila, this wonderfully delicious Caramel Shortcake will be on the table in no time! Lots of baking – and of course fun eating! Will you let us know what you think? Hopefully it tastes as good as mine! 🙂
